Mens Monk Shoes
Mens Monk Shoes & Monk Strap Shoes
A Monk Shoe is a stylish shoe with no laces that is closed by a buckle and strap that acts both as an ornament and a protection.
More properly called the Monk Strap Shoe, its origin is indeed found amongst the monastic orders of the 11th century whose followers found that simple sandals tended to come off while endlessly tilling muddy fields or leaping hedgerows to get away from the local barons or the Vikings. By securing the shoe to the foot with a buckle, a new, fashionable and adjustable footgear was born. We also have double monk strap shoes.
Today, the Monk Shoe is regarded as the perfect bridging point between the formal and the casual shoe. Hard-wearing, long-lasting, they are considered more relaxed than a full Oxford; but less everyday than an open Derby. Often with a cap toe, occasionally brogued, and popular in suede, the Monk’s Shoe stands proudly in a category of its own.
